Welcome to a world of SALES!
Here is the nitty gritty about me and how a began my career in sales!
In the summer of 2000, I made the decision to drop out of university from a computer science degree - much to my parents dismay (which I completed later in life)! I took a risk during those dot-com years and started to work at a start-up. So, I began at the no-name start-up technical department - I quickly learned, I had no inclination towards Java programming, SQL, etc.
The room next door was the marketing / sales folks and the two interns were leaving, so I picked up the courage and asked the owner if I can go there. Courage - I was the most shyest (or shiest - according to Webster's both are acceptable!) and risk averse guy on the planet. But being desperate for some dineros/moula/$$$ I took the risk.
To my amazement, I somehow caught on the bug of sales and instantly started making cold-calls! I had no experience, used a script, tweeked the script, and started getting people engaged! How did I do it? I would attribute it to:

- Persistence - by that I mean, don't give up on a key account, keep calling different people.
- Failing - you've got to fail to know what doesn't work.
- Focused concentration - be in the NOW, don't let go of your momentum and block all external thoughts.
